SUNDAY 19TH AUGUST - UK OPEN CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

This weekend, the team competed at the UK championships in Halkyn, North Wales. The weather conditions were extremely wet, but the team competed well in the 680 kilos event, reaching the final, only to lose out to Felton Eccles.

SUNDAY 6TH AUGUST - INTER COUNTIES CHAMPIONSHIPS

The teams this weekend competed at the Inter Counties Championships at Bosley. The team failed to achieve a medal in the 680 kilos weight class, but performed well in the 720 kilos and catchweight events, finishing third in the 720, and 2 nd in the catchweight after a tough final with Bosley

SUNDAY 29TH JULY - AAA'S CHAMPIONSHIPS

Congleton hosted a successful AAA's championships in conjunction with the East Cheshire Hospice. The club did not perform well enough, and failed to win a medal in any weight class on the day, but on a brighter note, a successful 6 a side charity competition was held, with 9 teams taking part. The day helped us raise alsmost £2000 for the East Cheshire Hospice

SATURDAY 16TH JUNE - NATIONAL OUTDOOR TUG OF WAR CHAMPIONSHIPS - THREE COUNTIES SHOW - MALVERN - WORCESTER

Congleton this weekend were involved in their 6th national outdoor championships, and the club were entered in the 680, 720 and catchweight events. Congleton got off to a great start by winning the catchweight event for the 5th year in a row, but were involved in a very close final with Bosley, winning the gold medal by 2 ends to 1. Raunds from Northampton won the bronze.

Congleton then gained silver in the 720 kilos, with Bosley winning the gold, and Holland from Staffordshire winning the bronze.

In Congleton's final weight of the day, the 680 kilos, the team came away with the bronze medal, after losing out to Felton Eccles in the semi-final. Congleton defeated Norton by 2 ends to 1 to win the bronze, and Bosley won the gold after defeating Felton in the final.

All in all, after a slow start to the season, it was still a great result to come away with three national medals.


SUNDAY 10TH JUNE - HEDGE END OPEN COMPETITION

Congleton this weekend were competing at the Hedge End TOWC Open competition at Christian Malford. Congleton entered A and B teams in the catchweight and 680 kilos events, and also entered a team in the 640 kilos event. Congleton did not reach the final of the catchweight event, but reached the final of the 680 kilos event, losing out to Felton Eccles in the final. Congleton competed well in the 640 kilos event, but failed to make the final standings.


SUNDAY 3RD JUNE - SANDHURST OPEN COMPETITION

Congleton-Kilroe made the long journey south to Sandhurst's annual open competition, where there was a good turnout of teams. The day was one of the hottest of the year, and the pulling in all weight categories was very close. Congleton this week continued with the steady improvement we have seen over recent weeks, competing in 4 weight categories on the day, and fielding B teams in the 680 kilos and catchweight competitions. Congleton reached the final of the catchweight, only to lose out to local rivals Bosley in the final by 2 ends to 0. The A team in the 680 kilos then exceeded expectations to reach the final of the 680 kilos, and go on to beat Felton Eccles in the final by 2 ends to 0.


SUNDAY 27TH MAY - WESSEX OPEN COMPETITION - CHRISTIAN MALFORD - WILTSHIRE

This weekend saw a return of the wet weather conditions, and with some mixed pulling, Congleton-Kilroe reached the final of the catchweight competition, losing out to Felton Eccles in the final. Congleton also finished second in the group to Felton Eccles in the 680 kilos, which meant that the team failed to reach the final, but otherwise, the team performed well.


SUNDAY 20TH MAY - FELTON ECCLES 60TH ANNIVERSARY COMPETITION

This week, we travelled to Bristol, with Felton Eccles hosting an excellent competition, with some close and exciting contests in every weight category. Congleton-Kilroe reached the first final of the season at catchweight, having overcome Felton in the group stages by 2 ends to 1 in a close battle, and we went on to finish second to Bosley in the final. We also finished second in our group in the 680 kilos competition behind Bosley, and after having a very tough three end battle with Lincoln.


SUNDAY 13TH MAY - DAVENTRY OPEN COMPETITION

Congleton-Kilroe fared a lot better at this event, but the poor weather spoiled what would have been an excellent day of tug of war. Congleton competed well in the 600, 640, and catchweight events, but did not make any finals.


SUNDAY 6TH MAY - BELVOIR VALE OPEN COMPETITION

Congleton travelled with a smaller squad to this event, but failed to live up to the improvements shown the previous week, but showed a little more character in the 640 kilos event. Bosley won the catchweight and 680, with Norton taking the 600 and 640.


SUNDAY 29TH APRIL - THAMES VALLEY OPEN COMPETITION

Congleton made a vast improvement at this event, competing with all teams in the catchweight and 680 kilos events. Congleton again did not make any finals, but had a good hard battle with Felton Eccles in the 680 kilos, but lost out in the end by 2 ends to 0. Felton won the catchweight, Norton won the 680, 640 and 600, and Sanhurst A won the 580.


SUNDAY 15TH APRIL - CONGLETON OPEN COMPETITION

Congleton hosted our own event this weekend at the Old Bedians Sports and Social club in Didsbury, south Manchester. Congleton-Kilroe again did not make any of the final placing, with our best finish coming in the catchweight, where we finished third. Bosley won the 600, 680, 720 and catchweight, with Norton winning the 640. Sheen won the ladies competitions, with Hope Valley finishing in second place in both of the ladies weight categories.


SUNDAY 8TH APRIL - WILTSHIRE COUNTY OPEN

Congleton competed here in our first event in they year, under our new name, which is Congleton-Kilroe. The club competed reasonably well, and despite not reaching any finals, got a good day of training in the 680 kilos and catchweight. Felton Eccles won the catchweight, Nrotn won the 600 and 680, and Sandhurst won the 640.
